Common Issues & Fixes
Where will the transcribed text show up?
The speech-to-text will appear exactly at your cursor location:
- Open any application (text editor, browser, etc.)
- Click where you want to type to position your cursor
- Press and hold your hotkey (F2), speak, then release
When I press F2, nothing happens
A small "Listening..." widget should appear. If it doesn't (primarily on Windows), your Function Lock may be disabled:
- Press Fn + Escape to enable Function Lock.
- This ensures F2 acts as a function key instead of a multimedia key.
- After enabling, press F2 again.
Vocaly isn't typing on macOS
macOS requires explicit permissions for Vocaly to simulate typing and listen to your microphone:
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Go to Accessibility and ensure the toggle next to Vocaly is turned ON.
- Go to Microphone and ensure the toggle next to Vocaly is turned ON.
- Restart Vocaly if you just granted the permissions.
