Quick Start Guide

1. Download & Install

Download Vocaly for Windows and run the installer. Your 14-day free trial starts automatically.

2. Start Voice Typing

Open any application (text editor, code editor, CLI terminal, browser, etc.), click where you want to type, then press and hold F2 to speak. Release when finished and watch your words appear.

Common Issues & Solutions

Where will the transcribed text show up?

The speech-to-text will appear at your cursor location:

  • • Open any application (text editor, browser, CLI terminal, etc.)
  • • Click where you want to type to position your cursor
  • • Press and hold F2, speak, then release
  • • Your words will appear exactly where your cursor was positioned

When I press F2, nothing happens

When you press F2, a small semi-transparent microphone widget should appear at the top-center of your screen showing "Listening...". If it doesn't appear, Function Lock may be disabled:

  • • Press Fn + Escape to enable Function Lock
  • • This ensures F2 acts as a function key instead of multimedia key
  • • After enabling, press F2 again - you should now see the microphone widget
  • • The widget appears at the top-center of your screen while recording

Which microphone does Vocaly use?

Vocaly automatically uses your system's default microphone:

  • • Go to Windows Sound Settings → Input
  • • The microphone selected as "Default" will be used by Vocaly
  • • Change your default microphone there if needed
  • • Vocaly will automatically pick up the new microphone

How do I activate my Vocaly installation?

Follow these steps to activate your Vocaly license:

  • • Go to https://vocaly.uk/buy-license and purchase a license key
  • • Open the Vocaly application on your Windows/MacOS computer
  • • From the hamburger menu (top right), navigate to the License screen
  • • Click on the "Enter License Key" tab
  • • Enter your license key in the text field and click "Verify License Key"

Tips for Better Results

  • • Speak clearly and at a normal pace - Clear pronunciation improves recognition accuracy
  • • Choose a quiet environment - Reduces background noise interference
  • • Use custom vocabulary for technical jargon - Add proper nouns, names, and specialized terms for better recognition
  • • Customize voice commands if required - Personalize voice commands for punctuation and formatting for your convenience
